16 Oct — FestivalThe Luleå Biennial is collaborating with Sameslöjdsstiftelsen Sámi Doudji on an exhibition that seeks to acknowledge duodji objects in themselves, as well as the ways that traditional Sami crafts relate to specific landscapes and contexts.

Seminar: It’s my language – even if I don’t know it
31 Oct — Learning RoomThe policies for assimilation initiated in Sweden during the 1800s resulted in severe consequences for people for generations to come. 'Swedification' still affects the situation for Meänkieli, one of Sweden's official minority languages, and the living conditions for those who speak and relate to the language.

31 Oct – 04 Nov — Learning RoomDuring the November holidays, artist duo Karin Keisu and Josse Thuresson will explore language and power together with youths between 12-19, taking off from the many language groups represented in Haparanda and Tornedalen, through workshops at Haparanda City Library.

Weaving circle
08 Nov — Learning RoomIn the Luleå Biennial, textile artist Ida Isak Westerberg shows their works Sompasenvouma 1 & 2 (2021), which were co-created with a mire in Tornedalen. The works tell us about the making, the location and a multicolored identity. Together with Hemslöjdskonsulenten Region Norrbotten, the biennial offers three digital courses during the autumn, where the basics of weaving will be explored in a free and curious way. The courses will be held by Ida Isak Westerberg.

In this workshop, Tobias Barenthin Lindblad will present different ways of expressing oneself, conveying messages through writing and graphic design. The workshop is open for young people in Norrbotten. Here, you will learn the tricks of expressive writing and how to create cool posters, as well as other expressions. No rules, no templates – feel free to get inspired!

Together with these two institutions, Rosa Tolnov Clausen will, between 5th of December and 11th of December host Weaving Kiosk workshops in Haparanda and Tornio.

With natural materials such as wool and silk, combined with respect for traditional knowledge, we gather for a nice time together with Sami inspired embroidery. 14 Jan — Earthed ImaginationIn Swedish Haparanda and Finnish Tornio exists a lively on-going cross-border collaboration between Haparanda City Cultural Department and Aine Art Museum. Together with the Luleå Biennial 2022 they organized a residency for artist Rosa Tolnov Clausen where she could set up her Weaving Kiosk – a format inspired by Nordic kiosk culture. In her presentation, Rosa Tolnov Clausen will tell us about the Weaving Kiosk.
