Craft talks with friends! At Galleri Syster we have invited several of our new biennial friends to create a display of festival exhibitions and projects that are taking place in other sites across Norrbotten during the biennial.

We welcome you to start the day moving together with us and sharing morning fika. This activity relates to the ice and snow thread that runs through the biennial.
Official opening of the Luleå Biennial 2022
Welcome from Konstfrämjandet and the biennial’s curators Onkar Kular and Christina Zetterlund, where they will guide us through the principles which helped shape the biennial, followed by an opportunity to view the exhibition and artist talks at Art Center Luleå (Luleå Konsthall).

The opening festival's first day ends with a party at Punkhuset, the Punk House, in Luleå.

Opening of Berits Halmmuseum at the Sörbyn Sundsnäs Homestead Museum
Take the opportunity to visit Berits Halmmuseum at the Sörbyn Sundsnäs Homestead Museum. Visitors can experience the unique collection of craft works by Berit Berin, a small selection of which are on display as part of the biennial exhibition at Havremagasinet.
Opening of Duoji máttut – Vætnoen maadtoe – Duoje máddoinformation
The Luleå Biennial is collaborating with Sameslöjdsstiftelsen Sámi Doudji on an exhibition that seeks to acknowledge duodji objects in themselves, as well as the ways that traditional Sami crafts relate to specific landscapes and contexts.

Language Power
During the November holidays, artist duo Karin Keisu and Josse Thuresson will explore language and power together with youths between 12-19, taking off from the many language groups represented in Haparanda and Tornedalen, through workshops at Haparanda City Library.

Premiere screening of the film about Gullahallan ja birgen - about an exhibition by Berit Kristine Anderson Guvsám, Gunvor Guttorm and Laila Susanna Kuhmunen.
Weaving circle
In the Luleå Biennial, textile artist Ida Isak Westerberg shows their works Sompasenvouma 1 & 2 (2021), which were co-created with a mire in Tornedalen. The works tell us about the making, the location and a multicolored identity. Together with Hemslöjdskonsulenten Region Norrbotten, the biennial offers three digital courses during the autumn, where the basics of weaving will be explored in a free and curious way. The courses will be held by Ida Isak Westerberg.

Sami craft master Anna-Stina Svakko invites us to a meeting with Sami stitches. Through images and stories she inspires us to try them for ourselves. With natural materials such as wool and silk, combined with respect for traditional knowledge, we gather for a nice time together with Sami inspired embroidery. Materials will be available for purchase on site.
