Haparanda City’s cultural department works with and promotes culture in order to reach the widest public possible, according to the principles of inclusion, diversity and equality.
The department coordinates a programme of theatre and dance plays for schools, arranges cultural events all year round and, once a year, an artistic residency programme. Moreover, it manages the municipal public art and cultural heritage sites (the Kukkola rapids and the Unesco Struve’s measurement point), organizes walking tours, runs and promotes different sorts of cultural projects. All this, in cooperation with the twin town of Tornio, on the Finnish side of the border, but also with local, regional, national and even international actors.
