LB°24 About

About the lands

Luleåbiennalen (the Luleå Biennial) takes place in Sábme, the ancestral homeland of the Sami people. The biennial is possible to organise here thanks to the Sami people’s diligent and compassionate approach towards the lands and waters of the area.

Sami resilience and endurance has made sure that the region is protected and cared for in consideration of future generations. We have a responsibility towards the lands we are privileged to work upon—a responsibility which we want to uphold.

We acknowledge and confirm the painful history and present struggles of the Sami people. The biennial is committed to including and honoring the perspectives, culture and traditions of Indigenous artists and communities, and we strive to build relationships based on mutual respect as part of our work towards an equitable future.
