About Audio Cinema

Baajh vaeride årrodh! (Let the Mountains Live!), 2018, Søstrene Suse, Luleå konsthall. Photographer Thomas Hämén.

Søstrene Suse shares their experiences of organizing and activating through audio cinema.

As part of the Luleå Biennial 2022 you are invited to take part of Baajh vaeride årrodh! (Let the mountains live!) – an audio cinema by Søstrene Suse where we are invited to take part of experiences over three generations surrounding the battle for Sápmi. The story departs from the Alta conflict, a struggle regarding the expansion of hydroelectric power in the Alta-Kautokeino rivers during the 70’s and 80’s followed by stories of other important campaigns over the years leading up to today.

In audio cinema, the visual elements expected of a cinema experience are taken away, leaving only sound. The format, originating in collective listening, makes us feel less alone in our experience and in the collective lies the starting point for change.

The collective Søstrene Suse consists of Astrid Fadnes, Ingrid Fadnes, Eva Maria Fjellheim and Susanne Normann. They have worked together on projects surrounding extractivism, feminism, indigenous freedom and territorial struggle in South America, Norway and Sápmi.

About Audio Cinema is part of the seminar Earthed Imagination.

The presentation will be in English, warm welcome!
