Claudia Chaseling (b. 1973) is an artist based in Berlin.

Claudia Chaseling is interested in the moments of instability and tension that arise when man-made systems and natural environments collide, and she wants to capture these conflicts and collisions in her paintings. When for example the symbol of accelerating progress like giant dam constructions or vast highways cannot be maintained and slowly deteriorate. As for nature, Chaseling works with images of places that a single person can hardly affect, but we are affected by its power and dimension, like deserts, long coastlines, glaciers and outer space.

In her work for the Luleå Art Biennale, she uses color in a way that the perspective and actual depth of the space is changed and distorted and the interior seems to tip out of balance. Instead of using architectural images she paints directly onto the given architecture. Her wall paintings include objects contain objects that she calls capsules. Each object is named after an animal that has been sent into space for experimental reasons. The capsules that Chaseling has made for the Luleå Art Biennale are called Arabella and Baker (a spider and a monkey, both from America). The painted space symbolizes some kind of reality in which the objects float, not knowing where they came from or where it will go.

Egg tempera and oil.
